Magical realist family portrait
ALMA VIVA
France, Portugal, Belgium – 88′ – Drama
Director: Cristèle Alves Meira
Production: Fluxus Films
In a small village in Portugal where time seems to stand still, Salomé spends a warm summer with her family. What starts as a carefree holiday quickly turns when her grandmother, with whom she shares a special bond, suddenly passes away. The funeral brings the family together but also sparks friction, while Salomé is haunted by the spirit of her beloved grandmother. In this heartwarming, magical realist family portrait of different generations of women, spirituality and tradition are still very much alive. “Alma Viva” by director Cristèle Alves Meira is Portugal’s entry for the Oscars.
